Fernando Alonso believes it would be an embarrassment if Lewis Hamilton is handed the world title on appeal.
Alonso and British ace Hamilton were both denied the world title by Kimi Raikkonen by a point after the Ferrari driver won the Brazilian Grand Prix.
But Hamilton was given hope of a reprieve when both BMW Saubers and Nico Rosberg's Williams were found to have breached the technical regulations relating to fuel temperatures.
Disqualification for all three would have moved Hamilton up to fourth in the race and given him the world title, but lengthy meeting of the FIA race stewards resulted in no punishment being handed out due to "insufficient evidence."
McLaren instantly notified the FIA of their intention to appeal the decision, but Alonso, the world title in 2005 and 2006, said it would not be the correct way to end an already tumutuous season.
Alonso told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser: "If he (Hamilton) wins the championship due to this, it wouldn't be fair and I would be embarrassed for this sport.
"I'm not sure what he (Hamilton) would think - I guess if they give you the title, you don't think it's a present but rather that you deserve it.
"He would be delighted."
Ferrari president Luca Montezemolo echoed Alonso's sentiments, saying that McLaren's appeal was "pointless."
He said: "The rules consider that if any other car is punished, it doesn't mean that others will get points given automatically."
